MODA GOA MUSEUM & RESERCH CENTRE

COLVALE, GOA, INDIA

Our collection of over 800 artefacts stretches from the 7th century AD till present date. It includes statues, objects, furniture, photographs and of course costumes, jewellery & accessories.

18 galleries will be accommodated in the restored heritage building on a floor area of 750 sqm set on two levels (Access enabled).

The Library, between the main museum and the phase 2 building, will have 60 sqm to house books and receive scholars and students.

In phase 2 we will build, in traditional Goan style, an area of 240 sqm to house storage, conservation, a scholar residence and an administration zone.

The restored building, the Library (Phase I) and the research facilities (Phase II), including the three sides of a inner courtyard will constitute a Museum that will be a meeting place, host social activities and present an entertainment zone.

Casa Dona Maria, as the house was named, is an unregistered heritage house dating to the late 1500’s for the ground floor to the mid 1750’s to 1850’s for the rest of the structure. After acquisition by the founding Trustee in 1993 (from late Olinda Braganza), various additions were made in the last 25 years keeping in mind the design and constructions techniques of the past.

The restoration being carried out at present is in line with the requirements of world class heritage conservation standards.
